Time Tub Travellers Circus Mystery

Review by Aria, Year 6 Sheen Mount Primary School
This book is set in 1845 in Leeds. The novel tells the story of a famous Black circus owner called Pablo Fanque. I like this book because it describes an amazing Black equestrian which we do not really talk about today. It is a very light-hearted book making it an easy read, however, it also has a mystery in it, keeping the reader’s interest. It makes you take a ride in to black circus history. I would recommend it to children ages 7 to 10. My favourite character is William Wallet because he is funny.

Review by Troy, Year 7, Riverside School
The book was set in 1845 and I found it interesting because the time travellers (Zula and Milo) spoke about things that Charlie, Pablo and the rest of the circus members haven’t even discovered in their time period. An example of this was when Charlie first found out about a tent. My favourite character was Pablo because he was one of the most rational. I thought that circuses wouldn’t have existed in the past and they might have had a different type of entertainment, like dancing. This was newfound knowledge for me as I normally learn about times before the 1500s or after the 1900s. The book made me want to learn more about the 1800s. I would recommend this book to other students because of the interesting plot and the character development.
