Introduction: The Beth Shalom Holocaust Memorial Centre

The Beth Shalom Holocaust Memorial Centre near Newark, Nottinghamshire, is a unique resource for schools. Recently, ‘The Journey' exhibition was opened specifically for use by primary aged children. Within this exhibition, children can follow the story of a 10-year-old Jewish boy called Leo during World War Two. Using a range of resources from genuine artefacts to touch-screen technology, children are given the opportunity to explore various areas, including the living room of a Jewish family, a school room, tailor shop and kinder transport. The final part of the visit gives the children the opportunity to meet a real Holocaust survivor, hear their story and ask questions...
